Introduction:
|
"Two communities of Sutra and Mantra practitioners, shaven-headed monks
and long-haired Yogins, with the view of the Middle Way and the conduct
of the Vinaya, and the ultimate union of the generation and completion
stages, the Great Perfection—This is the great secret tradition of
Ancient Translations in the Land of Snows, With its six qualities of
greatness."
-His
Holiness Dunjom Rinpoche from-
"The
Mirror Clearly Showing What to Adopt and Abandon-Guidelines for the
Monastic Sangha and the Order of Vidyadharas"
___________________________________________________________
The great spiritual traditions of Tibet are known for their
extraordinary monastic institutions and disciplined training of monks
and nuns. Yet, side by side, there has existed another, equally vital
and important tradition. This is the way of the Ngakpa—the yogi or yogini, man or
woman, who lives fully in both the material world and the world of
spirit. For a thousand years these brave spiritual warriors strode
directly into life, either as solitary wanderers or integrating their
spiritual wisdom with the activity of the community. Today, the Diaspora
from Tibet has created strong monastic communities in Nepal and India.
Yet, the less known Ngakpa tradition, dwelling on the fringe of
institutionalized religion and rigid hierarchies, is well suited for
preservation by integration into our modern world and requires
this preservation
of its unique existence and spiritual identity.

Mission Statement
"It is the responsibility of the holders of the teachings or members of
the Sangha to ensure that the precious Buddhist teachings, with their
two aspects of scripture and realization, do not degenerate but remain
for long within the world."
-H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche
By forming a strong
and grounded community of Buddhist Vajrayana practitioners, may we do
our part in assuring that the Great and Unerring Secret Adamantine-Path
of the Early Translation School (Nyingma), remains in this world
benefiting and brining to enlightenment limitless beings in limitless
ways, using limitless means, from now until endless time.

A note to visitors of this
site:
The
Ngakpa Society (Ngakdra Labrang) and its associated Nepal Dharma center,
Evam Mingyur Ling, although recently debuting on the www, have been
in development for several years now. We now come to the stage
where facilities will slowly become available to newcomers and serious
practitioners alike. It is a unique time, a formulation period
during which assistance is sought in many forms. We hope you
will join us and help us slowly grow into a society that will benefit this and
future generations while helping us creatively adjust to the challenging
times we find ourselves living in.
Not all programs and
services will be available at the snap of a finger.
Many of our activities take time to organize and cultivate and depend
greatly on interest expressed and assistance in organizing and
accumulating the requisite merit and financial support. Those interested in this society
should bear in mind that it is not a commercial venture and one should
determine what one can do in order to serve its purpose to benefit
others, rather than solely assessing ones own potential benefits.
The
Ngakpa Society is a cultural preservation program operating under the
Himalayan Light Foundation (HLF) which is a registered, 501 C-3 not-for-profit
organization. Himalayan Light Foundation was founded by Adam Friedensohn
for the purposes of uplifting the Peoples of the Himalayan and South
Asia regions by skillful dissemination of renewable energy technologies
for vital service provision and poverty and pollution reduction. HLF works in several
countries including the USA, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, and Bhutan. For
